Chapter 14: Some Conjunctions

  14.3.2 The verb moves at the end of the phrase

The conjunction damit we have seen already in 14.2.5 Some Important Conjunctions - damit. Here we have a close look at the position of the verb. The verb goes right at the end of the phrase.
  damit = that, to
Er geht in die Schule. He goes to school.
Er lernt etwas. He learns something.
Er geht in die Schule, damit er etwas lernt. He goes to school to learn something.

But again there are other conjunctions that cause the same. Some examples you'll find here.

  wenn = when, if
Er lernt etwas. He learns something.
Er geht in die Schule. He goes to school.
Er lernt etwas, wenn er in die Schule geht. He learns something if he goes to school.

  solange = as long as
Er arbeitet. He works.
Er hat Lust. He feels like it.
Er arbeitet solange er Lust hat. He works as long as he feels like it.

  bis = until
Er arbeitet. He works.
Er hat genügend Geld. He has enough money.
Er arbeitet, bis er genügend Geld hat. He works until he has enough money.

  weil* = because
Er tut es. He does it.
Er will es. He wants it.
Er tut es, weil er es will. He does it because he wants it.

Er lernt nichts. He doesn't learn anything.
Er geht nicht in die Schule. He doesn't go to school.
Er lernt nichts, weil er nicht in die Schule geht.

He doesn't learn anything because he doesn't go to school.
Er lernt nichts, denn er geht nicht in die Schule.

He doesn't learn anything because he doesn't go to school.

Weil as well as denn (see chapter 14.3.1 no change of position of the verb) correspond to because. Weil does cause a change of the position of the verb, denn does not.
