Guten Morgen! = Good morning !

Heute bin mal mit meiner Schwester unterwegs. = Today I am travelling with my sister.

unterwegs = on the road (literally: I am on the road with my sister)

Und ich mit meinem Bruder! = And I with my brother!

Schleswig-Holstein ist das nördlichste Bundesland. Links und rechts davon ist Wasser. = Schleswig - Holstein is the most northern federal state, at the right and at the left there is nothing but water.

Norden - das Nördlichste = nothern - the most nothern

Links die Nordsee und rechts die Ostsee. = At the left side the North Sea and at the right side the Baltic Sea.

Die Hauptstadt von Schleswig-Holstein liegt an der Ostsee und heißt Kiel. = La capital de Schleswig - Holstein está al borde de la Ostsee y se llama Kiel.

Wir sind gerade am Hafen. = Now we are at the port.

Von hier aus fahren die großen Fähren nach Schweden und Norwegen. = From here the big ferries goes to Sweden and Norway.

Außerdem ist hier das eine Ende des Nord-Ostsee-Kanals. = Beside that here is one end of the the Kiel Canal.

Den hat man vor über 100 Jahren gebaut, damit Schiffe direkt von der Ostsee in die Nordsee fahren können ohne um ganz Dänemark drumherum schwimmen zu müssen. = He has been constructed one hundred years ago in order that the ships can go directly from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea without being obliged to surround Denmarc.

In this case 'herum' would be sufficient. It would be possible as well to just say '...ohn um ganz Dänemark herum schwimmen zu müssen."
In this sentence there is a general problem. In german all the verbs of mouvement, to row, to fly, to spring, to go etc. can have an adverb, which indicates the direction of the movement. Very often the structure of a sentence must be changed completely when translating these verbs into english.

Eine super Idee! = A very good idea!

Sowas in der Art hat man auch in Panama gemacht aber das ist ein anderes Thema. = Something similar was done in Panama, but that is another topic.

Wir könnten jetzt eigentlich gleich durch die Ostsee bis ins nächste Bundesland schwimmen. = Now we could swimm throught the Baltic Sea to the next federal state.


eigentlich = in fact

Das hat einen noch längeren Namen: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. = This one has a still larger name: Mecklenburg - Vorpommern.

lang - länger = long - longer (längeren refers to a direct object)


Vielleicht nehmen wir doch besser ein Schiff. = Perhaps it is better to go by ship.

Oder ein Tretboot. = O a peddal boat.
