  18.4 Condition vs. change <=> sein vs werden

In English as well as in German the change of a condition is described differently than the state (before or after) itself. The condition is described with sein = to be, the change usually with werden.

examples  
Slowly he became an alcoholic. => Now he is an alcoholic.
Allmählich wurde er zum Alkoholiker. => Jetzt ist er ein Alkoholiker.
  He got nervous. => He is nervous.
Er wurde nervös. => Er ist nervös.
  He got crazy. => He is crazy.
Er wurde verrückt. => Er ist verrückt.
